Nebraska most likely will be without their best defensive player when the Cornhuskers play FCS McNeese State on Saturday.

Coach Bo Pelini told the Lincoln Journal Star that preseason All-Big Ten defensive end Randy Gregory likely will miss the game because an “old injury flared up” to Gregory’s knee in Saturday’s 55-7 win over Florida Atlantic. He played in only one series Saturday.

Gregory had a minor procedure on the knee Sunday morning, and Pelini said Gregory was “doubtful” for the game against the Cowboys. Pelini said Gregory’s chances of returning the following week at Fresno State were “probable.”
“We’re not looking to rush him back right now,” Pelini told the Journal Star.

Gregory, a junior, led the Big Ten with 9 1/2 sacks last season.
