University of Miami quarterback Ryan Williams tore his right ACL.

Williams, projected as the Hurricanes’ starter this season, injured his knee during a non-contact drill in the second scrimmage of the spring on Friday night.

The school announced Saturday that Williams will have surgery next week, but did not disclose the severity of the injury or indicate a timetable for his return. He was evaluated at the University of Miami Hospital.

Miami will go to redshirt freshman Kevin Olsen and sophomore Gray Crow. Olsen was working with the second team and Crow the third team. Freshmen Brad Kaaya and Malik Rosier will join the Hurricanes this summer.

Williams, who will be a senior this season, played four games for the Hurricanes last year. He completed 22 of 32 passes (68.8 percent) for 369 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

After starting 10 games for Memphis in 2010, he transferred to Miami. He played in five games in 2012 after sitting out the 2011 season.
