Florida State suspended freshman quarterback De’Andre Johnson indefinitely for a violation of athletic department policy, the school announced in a statement on Thursday night.

According to an ESPN report, Johnson struck a woman in the face at a bar in West Tallahassee, Fla., during an argument on Wednesday night.

No criminal charges had been filed against Johnson. The alleged altercation came after the 21-year-old woman moved ahead of him in line while waiting for drinks and Johnson grabbed her arms before punching her in the face.

Johnson’s name did not appear on the redacted Tallahassee Police Department report.

The highly recruited Johnson played in Florida State’s spring game and completed 8 of 11 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, including a 42-yard connection with Ermon Land that helped his team to a 24-17 lead.

Going into the fall, Johnson was expected to be behind Notre Dame transfer Evertt Holson and Sean Maguire on the depth chart.
