In the past, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has indicated he will stay in Tallahassee for a couple of more years. But after Tuesday’s news that the returning Heisman Trophy winner and his family have purchased an insurance policy worth between $8 million and $10 million, there is speculation the Seminoles quarterback will bolt for the NFL after this season.
According to Yahoo Sports, Winston is the first returning Heisman Trophy winner since former Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford to purchase preseason loss of value coverage, although other returning winners have purchased “total permanent disability” coverage.
Last year as a freshman, Winston earned numerous accolades in addition to the Heisman Trophy. He was the ACC Player of the Year, ACC Rookie of the Year, a consensus All-American and named the Offensive MVP of the BCS title game after Florida State’s 34-31 win over Auburn.
He also set national freshman records for passing touchdowns (40) and passing yards (4,057).
